National PMU Registry
Mission Statement
It is our mission to establish a registry devoted strictly to horses produced as a result of the Pregnant Mare Urine (PMU) Industry.
The benefits of registering horses verified to be from the PMU Industry will hopefully offer enticement to the horse world to recognize what we as PMU owners are all ready aware of; the intelligence, beauty and athletic talents of these animals.
The National PMU Registry will initially offer certificates of registration and maintain records on all horses registered. We hope to offer sponsorship of classes strictly for horses registered with the NPMUR at shows beginning in 2004. A program recognizing the achievements of our members will also be instituted in 2004.
It is also very important to the Registry that the horses that continue to be produced by the PMU Industry find homes.
It is our view that too many horses do not make it into homes and therefore, the National PMU Registry is not a breeding registry. No offspring of horses registered with our association are eligible for registration. We believe that it is wrong to produce more babies when so many are going to feedlots. No stallions registered with the National PMU Registry will be eligible for member benefits after the age of three. If at anytime in the future the PMU industry no longer produces excess foals, these rules will be re-evaluated.
We are not a political organization for or against the PMU Industry. Our concern is for the animals produced and how we can best serve them and the good people that own them. Farms are encouraged to promote the registration of the foals, and if they choose to do this, their identities will be protected. Rescues and Brokers of foals are also encouraged to recognize that a registry could potentially help increase placement of these horses.
